Kg. Buayan, Penampang/Papar ….Some church communities have responded to the plight of the family of Tambayang Sobitang following that fateful day on the 29th November 2022 around 2 pm where their wooden kampung house was completely destroyed and reduced to ashes by fire. Thank God no casualty was reported.
St. Michael’s Penampang asst. parish Priest Rev. Fr. Gilbert Marcus who is also the spiritual adviser of Caritas St. Michael’s Parish, Penampang, during his priestly duty made a visit to the location while handling over cash donation to ease the burden of the family at Kg Buayan near the scene on the 5th December recently.
Meanwhile, Donggongon-Hubah Catholic Community (DHCC) from a semi-urbanized part of Penampang took an immediate effort of initiative to conduct donation drive from their generous people in their community when they found the sad news through the social media. The community representative Rita Disimond who is the treasurer handed over the donations to the children of Tambayang in a simple ceremony at the parish The Saints’ Cafe near St. Michael’s church, Penampang, Dec 9, 2022.
One of the siblings sister namely Ivy, happens to be one of the students currently schooling under the Maktab Nasional scholarship staying at St. Michael’s Church boarding house. This remote outstation zone under the care of the St. Michael’s Penampang Parish, is a mountainous jungle village in the deep Crocker range Ulu Papar valley. The people of around 300 inhabitants are still living in poverty vastly relying on agricultural activities for their economical life cycle. Accessible through log type road taking about few hours time travel to reach the area using only with 4-wheel drive vehicles from the nearest town of Donggongon…JJ/Soccom,Penampang/Photos credit to Imelda Matayun & Doris Disimond
