Theme: We Are God’s Living Temple
The Lateran Basilica in Rome is the Pope’s cathedral and the “mother church” of all Catholic churches. But today’s feast is not only about a building — it is about us, the living Church, where God chooses to dwell through His Spirit.
Every church building reminds us of a deeper truth: “God’s real temple is not made of stone, but of hearts filled with faith, love, and holiness.”
Reflection on the Readings
Ezekiel 47:1–2, 8–9, 12 – Water flowing from the Temple
Ezekiel sees water flowing from the Temple, giving life wherever it goes. This water symbolizes God’s grace and Spirit flowing to heal and renew His people. Just as water refreshes dry land, the Spirit of God refreshes our souls.
💭Let God’s grace flow through you — in kindness, forgiveness, and service.
Psalm 46 – God is our refuge and strength
Even when the world shakes, the psalm says, “God is in her midst; she shall not fall.” The Church and our hearts remain strong because God is within us.
💭In every trial, remember: God’s presence is our peace.
1 Corinthians 3:9–11, 16–17 – You are God’s temple
St. Paul reminds us that we are God’s building, and His Spirit lives within us. Christ is the foundation of our lives. If we destroy unity or hurt others, we damage God’s temple.
💭Keep your heart pure and your relationships peaceful — you are God’s dwelling place.
John 2:13–22 – Jesus cleanses the Temple
When Jesus drives out the merchants, He reveals that His own Body is the true temple. After His Resurrection, God’s presence no longer dwells in stone walls, but in Christ and all who believe in Him.
💭Let Jesus cleanse your heart from pride, anger, and sin, so that God can live freely within you.
Spiritual Message
The Feast of the Lateran Basilica connects all these readings: God’s Spirit flows like living water (Ezekiel). God dwells among His people (Psalm). We are His holy temple (Paul). Jesus is the new and living Temple (Gospel).
Together they teach us: “God no longer lives only in temples made by human hands — He lives in His people.”
So when we care for one another, forgive, and serve, we are building the Church. When we gossip, divide, or judge, we are tearing it down.

Lord Jesus, You are the true temple where heaven and earth meet. Cleanse our hearts from sin and make us living temples of Your Spirit. May Your grace flow through us to bring peace, healing, and unity to our families and Church. Amen.
