Today’s readings invite us to reflect on the Church’s role as the Bride of Christ, filled and moved by the Holy Spirit, united in mission, love, and hope for the Lord’s return.
In the first reading, St. Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, sees the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of the Father. Even as he is stoned to death, he forgives his persecutors. Stephen models what it means to be the Bride of Christ — courageous, Spirit- filled, and forgiving.
The Psalm calls all creation to worship the Lord in holy splendour. This is the Church’s
ongoing mission : to invite all peoples to know and worship God.
The Book of Revelation ends with a powerful image: “The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come!’” This is the voice of the Church, filled with the Spirit, calling the world to receive the free gift of salvation. Jesus responds, “Surely I am coming soon,” to which we reply in hope: “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!”
In the Gospel, Jesus prays for all believers to be one, just as He and the Father are one. This unity is a sign to the world of God’s love. Christ’s prayer invites us to live in deep communion with Him and with one another.
Let us reflect :
To live as the Spirit and the Bride:
Let us become the living Bride, united with the Spirit, saying to the world: “Come to Jesus!”
And may we echo the final words of Scripture: “Come, Lord Jesus!” Amen.
