15th Sunday Ordinary Time Year A
Christ The Sower.
Let me begin my reflection by placing the settings of The Parable of The Sower when Jesus was presenting.
It must have been on the shore of Lake Tiberias near Tabgha or Capernaum. From the boat, where Jesus was together with His disciples, they could see pathways, rocks, thorns and also fertile grounds. A perfect setting for the parable and easy for us to relate to.
So the sower came and started throwing seeds seemingly without care; on the pathway, on rocks, among thorns and fertile ground. We would expect a farmer to sow seeds on the fertile soil only! But we are not talking about any ordinary sower! We are dealing with the Sower who is called Jesus, the Sower par excellence and he scatters the seeds indiscriminately. It is showing us that the seed, that is, the Word of God is shared among all of us, whether we are ready to receive it or not.
Four different types of ground are highlighted:
What can we learn from this parable?..
God is ever generous and gives Himself without any reservations to all of us but He cannot force Himself on us. The Good News can only sprout, grow roots and bear fruits abundantly in as much as we open, receive and nurture the Seed.
As we continue to celebrate, listen and walk together let us also pray that we may allow the shower of God’s grace, mercy and love to enable our hearts to receive the fullness of God’s Word.
